Child and Parent Specialty TrainingAttention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Specialty Group ProgramThe Child and Adolescent ADHD Clinic at Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) provides specialty group training for children with ADHD (4 to 18 years of age) and their parents. The child and parent training groups are run separately and consist of 10 weekly training sessions. The groups are led by a licensed psychologist and doctoral students in the Department of Psychology at FDU. Groups are held at the FDU's Center for Psychological Services, 139 Temple Avenue, Hackensack, New Jersey and are offered during the fall, spring, and summer. ![]() Child Specialty Training GroupGroup training offers children a natural context to learn and practice new ways to socialize and problem solve with peers their own age. Children are taught problem solving skills through structured play activities, didactic instruction, symbolic and in vivo modeling, role playing, behavioral rehearsal, and coaching. The child training group includes a token economy system to encourage children to master new skills and promote their self confidence. Each group consists of 4 group therapists and approximately 6 to 8 children, no more than three years apart in age. Group sessions are approximately 90 minutes. Topics taught include:Parent Specialty Training GroupGroup training offers parents an excellent opportunity to learn new skills, share knowledge and information, and obtain support. Parents are provided information about the skills their children are taught in the child group. Weekly home work assignments are assigned to enhance children's learning. In addition, educational and behavioral interventions are presented to improve learning and social interactions at home. Each parent group session is approximately 90 minutes. Topics presented include:Screening and RegistrationChildren and parents are carefully screened in order to identify those families who would most benefit from the group training experience. Parents are asked to complete an application and assessment instruments on their child. Professional documentation (e.g., school evaluations, pediatric neurology reports) on the child's difficulties are also collected. All evaluation information is kept strictly confidential. The fee for both the Child or Parent Training Group is $350.00.
