About Fairleigh Dickinson University
Fairleigh Dickinson University
Founded in 1942, Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) is the largest private educational institution in New Jersey, with 11,000 graduate and undergraduate students (including more than 800 international students). It has two northern New Jersey campuses in Teaneck and Madison, as well as an overseas campus in England. The University offers more 100 programs leading to associate's, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. FDU has more than 100,000 alumni worldwide.
A nationally recognized leader in both global education and distance learning, FDU's mission is to serve as "a center of academic excellence dedicated to the preparation of world citizens through global education."
In 2001, the University took the bold step of becoming the first college in the nation to require that all its undergraduate students complete one online course per year of study. By combining FDU's central mission with its growing expertise in the delivery of interdisciplinary distance learning, FDU's New College of General and Continuing Studies has developed a compelling online graduate curriculum designed to respond to the needs of homeland security professionals throughout the country.
What is FDU's relationship with the National Guard Bureau?
Since 2001, Fairleigh Dickinson's New College of General and Continuing Studies has been collaborating with the National Guard Bureau to develop a Master of Administrative Science degree with concentrations and certificates in such areas as global security and terrorism studies and emergency management administration.
In the aftermath of 9/11, there has been a steady increase in the interaction between military personnel and first responders. For this reason, FDU's programs in this area -- which emphasize prevention and response -- also have great relevance for public safety and emergency services providers, who serve on the frontline of homeland security. These programs also are of great interest to individuals in the private sector who wish to broaden their skills and knowledge in this important area.
Is FDU accredited?
FDU is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Its College of Business holds prestigious accreditation by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Individual colleges and departments also hold appropriate accreditations for their areas.
Additionally, FDU is accredited by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET) to offer continuing education and training courses. It does so for a broad group of corporations and organizations, including Hoffmann LaRoche, Cendant, Quest Diagnostics, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Liz Claiborne, the New Jersey State Police and the National Guard Bureau.
