Why isn't my question on your Frequently Asked Questions
list?
What's the meaning of the arrows
and ?
Links on a web page can take you either to another page entirely, or to
another portion of the same page you are on. At www.fdu.edu, the
arrow buttons
and tell
which will happen.
(a graphic called "downhere.gif") takes you to another portion of the current
page. (a
graphic called "outthere.gif") takes you to another page. The difference
may be important, especially if your access to the world wide web is at
low speed. Jumping anywhere on the current page takes no download
time; jumping to another page may take some seconds or minutes to download
the new page. In most browsers, all of the current page, but only
the current page, can be printed with a single command.
How can I contact an office or department at FDU?
Offices and departments are shown alphabetically in the Teaneck and Madison campus directories. Departments are shown within their respective schools,
colleges, and campuses on the departments page.
How can I contact a person at FDU?
Faculty and staff are listed with their location and phone extension and
email address in the searchable
campus phonelist. Faculty are also listed there, with their academic
backgrounds.
Only students who have started a Personal Web Page
are at Personal Web Pages:
Students. (Alumni who have done so are at Personal
Web Pages: Alumni.) To find the email address of a student, contact
the postmaster.
To find other contact information for a resident student, contact the appropriate
Residence Life office: 201-692-2249 in Teaneck (Metropolitan Campus), 973-443-8586
in Madison (College at Florham).
Why isn't the individual I wish to contact in the Email
Directory?
FDU email directories require action on the part of the individual whose
email address is listed. Email addresses are shown for those who have included
their email address on a PIN form
submitted to Human Resources. Only this active step will result in
an email address being shown.
Which FDU campus am I looking for?
In chronological order, FDU campuses include:
The University's original campus in Rutherford,
NJ, which is no longer used or owned by FDU;
the Metropolitan Campus at Teaneck,
with an eclectic range of programs for residential students, commuters,
and adult learners;
a second Northern New Jersey campus, the College at Florham, at Madison,
primarily residential, with programs and campus life similar to traditional four-year
liberal arts colleges;
; and, the FDU campus at Wroxton College
in Oxfordshire, England, with programs primarily in literature and social
sciences.
What hardware and software does the website run on?
The FDU website is hosted on Netscape server software running on a DEC
Alpha computer.
Who do I contact to correct an error in a page on www.fdu.edu?
We were afraid you might ask that. Please contact the FDU
webmaster by email, phone (201-692-7275) or fax (201-692-7273) with
as much information as you can about the location of the error and the
correct information.
Can I get more information about a photograph on a
www.fdu.edu web page?
Think that's you, way in back, in red? Contact the University
Webmaster for whatever information we have about the time, place, event,
people, and photo specs of the images used at www.fdu.edu.
How can I search for information on the pages?
The "Search Me" link on the FDU
main page takes you to a search capability that allows full-text searches
of university web pages. You can also do a search
of the Personal Web Pages.
Why isn't there more information on . . . ?
. . . sports, current events, student life, your club, etc. Before information
goes onto the FDU website, we try to have two things:
(1) accurate information, and
(2) a reliable source to keep the information up to date.
The first of these is often easier to find than the second. If
we begin to post (for instance) sport scores, do we have a commitment from
someone who can pass us scores reliably for the future? If not, we
will try to focus on information which the website can provide consistently
for the forseeable future.
Please don't let that stop you from proposing additional content
for the site. Use the form at help/comments
to give us the idea.
Can I use an image or text from www.fdu.edu on
my web page?
All content on the FDU website is copyrighted by the University, with the
exception of certain text and graphics used with permission and noted as
such. If you are constructing a web page that will become part of
the University website, you may utilize any of the images at www.fdu.edu/images.
If you are constructing a Personal Web Page, which will be available at
alpha.fdu.edu within the FDU Acceptable
Use Policy, please request permission before using any image or text.
Use of www.fdu.edu graphics or text without permission is a violation of
copyright. You may always, on the other hand, use any FDU
web page as the destination of a link from your page. No prior permission
is required for this linking.
How can I set up a web page at FDU?
Students, alumni, faculty, and staff of FDU have the privilege of setting
up a web page or suite of pages on the FDU computer alpha.fdu.edu.
See the alpha help
page for information on getting privileges on the alpha system, and
see the page at webrecipe for
step by step instructions. You may want to work with a colleague
who has already had success with a webpage, since this is a multistep process.
What's the difference between alpha.fdu.edu and
www.fdu.edu?
Alpha (alpha.fdu.edu) is the host computer for Personal
Web Pages and for certain other Academic Computing Center applications.
WWW (www.fdu.edu), a smaller system, functions only as a web server.
The Web Resources Boundary page
has more information.
Why isn't my question on your Frequently Asked
Questions list?
You're not necessarily the first to have your question, but you
are the first one bright and motivated enough to bring it to the attention
of the FDU webmaster. Please follow through by sending an email message
to
the webmaster, or by phoning 201-692-7275.
