Presidential Citation

Peter Woolley

Professor of Political Science
Maxwell Becton College of Arts and Sciences
Executive Director of PublicMind

You joined the University in 1987 as a lecturer in the Maxwell Becton College of Arts and Sciences and have been an energetic, committed and valued faculty member on the College at Florham campus ever since. A professor of political science, you have long inspired your students with your teaching and your commitment to their academic growth and development.

In 2003, you translated your abundant knowledge of political theory into a cutting-edge research and polling organization appropriately named PublicMind™. As executive director, you have become Fairleigh Dickinson University’s “Professor About Town — and State — and Nation.” You have directed polls on issues as diverse as national and local elections, homeland security, the war in Iraq, consumer intentions and the impact of “The Sopranos” on the psyche of New Jersey.

Your voice is carried over the airwaves — on radio and television — and on the Ethernet. CBS, NBC and The New York Times consistently ask for your interpretation of complex political issues. You work closely with your faculty colleagues, extending the reach of PublicMind. And, true to your commitment to teaching and learning, you provide your students with unique opportunities as they work with you on the multiple aspects of polling and analysis.

Importantly, PublicMind has become a very prominent element of Fairleigh Dickinson. Through this exceptional entity, you continue to raise the visibility of our University and enhance our reputation and prestige.

For your commitment to your students and to your University, and for expanding the reach of Fairleigh Dickinson through PublicMind, I gratefully present you this Presidential Citation.

By and on behalf of the University Community,
