Master of Arts in Educational Leadership Approved

A new graduate program in the Peter Sammartino School of Education has just been approved by the state of New Jersey.  The new master of arts in educational leadership is for certified teachers of grades K–12 who want to move into positions of leadership.
This is a collaboration between the University and the major statewide professional association, the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association (NJPSA), which has a keen interest in the quality of future leaders and has co-sponsored and endorsed the program. Completion of the curriculum will qualify a student to apply for provisional certification as a principal or supervisor.

According to Eloise Forster, director, education, T-H, “Decentralization, school-based management and the movement toward higher standards has made principalship one of the most stressful and demanding leadership roles in our society. In this context, we are witnessing a serious shortage of administrative candidates for principalship.”

The FDU program provides opportunities for concentrated school-based experiences with exceptional school leaders. The field-based internship is a full-year, 12-credit component offered at participating schools. Students will participate in teams under the direction of a principal who assumes the role of the field-based mentor. This program, connected to the best practitioners in the field, can be completed in two full years including two summer sessions.
