New College of General and Continuing Studies

Middle College Program Expands

This fall, the Middle College Program welcomed six new high schools, Bergenfield, Hunterdon Central Regional, Ma’ayanot Yeshiva, Morris Knolls and Wood-Ridge high schools and Ridgefield Park Junior-Senior High School. Building on its current affiliations with 43 high schools throughout the state, the program currently enrolls more than 1,350 students. Since its inception in 1984, this precollege program continues to provide educational opportunities for students to take college-level course work and acquire college credit while still in high school.

Gifted, Talented Offering Adds New School

FDU’s Gifted and Talented Program for seventh- and eighth-graders recently established an affiliation with Ridgefield Park Junior-Senior High School. Ridgefield Park joins Columbia Middle School in Berkely Heights, N.J., and Fieldstone Middle School in Montvale, N.J., which already participate in this unique and challenging educational experience. The program consists of eight sessions, one day a week for eight consecutive weeks. Currently the Ridgefield Park students are enrolled in Studies in American Values and will receive one credit upon successful completion of all the requirements of the program. Other areas of study will include creative writing, mathematics and computers.

Course Ranked Seventh in Enrollment

The School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management’s Human Resource Learning Program was seventh in the nation in enrollment during the past semester. Designed for human resource professionals, the course is officially sanctioned by the Society of Human Resource Management as a preparatory course for the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designations.
