WFDU (FM) Celebrates Its 30th YearPast and present general managers of WFDU (FM), 89.1, gathered to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the radio station on August 30, during a special broadcast including a tape of the station’s first airing, which was run by Barry Sheffield, front, program director and operations manager, WFDU (FM), and assistant director, telecommunications, T-H. Sheffield was a station student staff member at the time of the first broadcast in 1971. Standing were from left: Lee Martin, founder of the station’s MusicAmerica format and manager in 1980, now manager of client services, Radio Netherlands, North America; Carl Kraus, current general manager and director of telecommunications, T-H; and David West, the station’s first general manager (through 1974) and now vice president affiliate relations, Dick Brescia Associates. Both Sheffield (BS’74, T-H) and West (BA’69, T-H) are FDU alumni. In celebration of its 30 years, the station will sponsor a special event on November 14, examining the history and future of radio broadcasting. |
