Institute for Global Commerce Launches ProgramsThe Institute for Global Commerce has introduced seminars for those active in global business and is planning conferences on global issues impacting commerce, peace and prosperity. The institute, under Executive Director Charles Dees, serves as the primary University center for research, education and activities that consider the stabilization of global marketplace links among countries and cultures and how these links encourage commerce and support world peace. In cooperation with Berlitz International, the institute is offering four cutting-edge, global training seminars. These one- and two-day seminars are: U.S. Women in Global Business, Cross-cultural Negotiations, Leadership in the Global Economy, and Relocation: Challenges and Opportunities. The interactive training sessions are customized to meet the needs of corporations and are delivered at the corporate site. Programs are presented by cross-cultural trainers supported by the institute’s Council of Global Associates. In association with FDU’s School of Hotel Restaurant and Tourism Management and its faculty members, Aixa Ritz and John Hughes, T-H, the institute will sponsor a conference on global hospitality in the spring. Scheduled for September 2002, in Washington D.C., is an international conference on peace and water to be run with Harvey Winters, retired, biological sciences, T-H, and chair of FDU’s desalination technology transfer center since 1986, and his colleague Leon Awerbuck, president of Leading Edge Technologies, in Cairo, Egypt. In addition, the institute is planning a comprehensive program on global mergers and acquisitions. The institute has recruited a Council of Global Associates that comprises faculty consultants and experts in the global environment. Associates include Winters; Awerbuck; Ritz; Mark Harris, executive vice president of Berlitz Language Services; Henry Parker, chairman of Parker Associates, international insurance specialists; and Max Stamper, former U.N. official with the Department of International Economic and Social Affairs, an expert in international public affairs and communications strategy and author of more than 100 related publications. Dees reports that, to date, the institute has raised approximately $40,000 from external sources for its support. The Institute for Global Commerce is located on the second floor of Dickinson Hall, Teaneck-Hackensack Campus, Suite 2139, Rooms 2141 and 2142, and may be reached at x7160, or by e-mail at dees@fdu.edu. |
