Leaving Their Mark

FDU-Vancouver has high hopes of generating more and more ambassadors for its innovative programs. Recruiting efforts are in full gear. But it might be hard to find ambassadors as passionate as the inaugural class.

“They are young and they are ambitious,” FDU-Vancouver Campus Provost Ian Haslam says. “They also have a lot of pride and don’t want to let anybody down. I’m confident in their ability to rise to the challenge.”

“ We are as diverse as we can make ourselves — for a reason. The chemistry we hope to create has the potential to change the way the world works.”
— Ian Haslam, FDU-Vancouver Campus Provost

Filip Krol, who was born in the Czech Republic and raised in Canada, is studying business management at the new campus. He understands the importance of being a member of the first class. “Since we’re the first group of students, everybody is watching us. There are high expectations, and we have a great responsibility.” Krol is embracing that responsibility and says he is dedicated to achieving a perfect grade point ratio. “I’m looking forward to leaving my mark here.”

There could be many marks made in FDU-Vancouver, and they are likely to be as varied as the individuals themselves. “We are as diverse as we can make ourselves — for a reason,” Haslam says. “The chemistry we hope to create has the potential to change the way the world works. It certainly will for our small learning community, and maybe it will for the good of humanity. Such is the power of higher education.”
