Opera at Florham Guild To Honor Met Soprano Anna MoffoFlorham Park-Madison, NJ (October 1, 1999) -- Soprano Anna Moffo, of the Metropolitan Opera, will be guest of honor at "A Celebrity Brunch" sponsored by the Opera at Florham Guild, on Sunday, November 7 in Lenfell Hall, The Mansion, on the Florham-Madison Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University. The Brunch begins at 11:30 a.m.The Guild is honoring Moffo, who celebrates the fortieth anniversary of her debut with the Met on November 14. Admission is $75; reservations should be made by calling Gloria Fernandi, 908-647-2204. Anna Moffo made her stage debut in 1955 as Norina in Donizetti's Don
Pasquale in Spoleto, Italy. In 1956 she appearead in a television
production of Madama Butterfly; in 1957 she made her LaScala debut
in Falstaff and her American debut as Mimi in Puccini's La Boheme
at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. At the Met, she sang the roles
of Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto, Adina in Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore, and
Li in Turandot. To her signature roles in LaTraviata and Lucia
di Lammermoor, she added the heavier Verdi roles of Leonora in Il Trovatore
and Lina in Stiffelio; then the title role in Bellini's Norma. She
has performed La Traviata more than 900 times and Lucia di Lammermoor almost
500 times.* |
