Scholars Days

March 12, 2004

The Colonel Fairleigh S. Dickinson Scholars Program was created to target and attract students who have scored highly on their SATs. Each year we hold special days for faculty interviews of these distinguished applicants. From my personal observation, this year’s events were fantastic. I asked Bernetta Millonde, our associate vice president for admissions and financial aid, to provide a brief recap. I thought you would find her response uplifting.

Thank you Bernetta and thank you to all involved.

2004 Scholars Days

At this year’s Scholars Days, a record total of 556 talented and highly sought students met with faculty members, heard from President Michael Adams and were introduced to life at FDU. This is an increase of more than 100 students from last year.

On February 22, 180 scholars attended the Metropolitan Campus event. Then, on March 6 and 7, 376 prospective students came to College at Florham Scholars Days, one for New College and the Silberman College of Business, and another for Becton College. Students who attended the events on the two campuses had an average SAT score of 1137.

From our dedicated faculty to Gourmet Dining Services to facilities management, we put our best foot forward and our prospective students and their family members were both impressed and appreciative.

Among the accolades received were the following quotes:

"As a parent with some experience with college programs, this was the most organized and best executed to date.”
"This presentation was by far one of the finest we have had the pleasure to attend. It was put together professionally. Student, faculty participation was excellent! Thank you.”
"The admissions department and whoever else was involved did a wonderful job organizing this event.”"As a parent who has made numerous trips to this campus, your quality of information and personable staff has made FDU my first choice. Every visit has been very informative and I wish I was at an age to return to school.”
"I really enjoyed President Adams’ presentation, the faculty interview and the Wroxton presentation. It was a great experience overall.”

Such testimony reflects the hard work and commitment of countless university individuals who made these events so valuable to these prospective students and their families. Thank you to everyone who played a role and helped to make FDU an attractive choice. I want to express a special thank you to Coleen Foley, our associate director, for her leadership and attention to details, and the entire undergraduate admissions staff for their diligent efforts orchestrating the events. It is rewarding to be able to share a vision and watch it come to fruition. I am honored to be directing such a dedicated and talented group.
