George Rothman

May 27, 2004

Colleagues, I am saddened to report the passing of George Rothman, former Fairleigh Dickinson University trustee and generous benefactor.

George’s commitment to education and his desire to provide for future generations of students are evident on both of our campuses. His support inspired the development of both the Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies at the College at Florham and the George and Phyllis Rothman Athletic Center on the Metropolitan Campus.

In addition to his important financial support, George provided the University invaluable counsel and direction as a member of the Board of Trustees from 1986 to 1992. The University awarded him an honorary doctor of laws degree in 1991. In 1999, he and his wife, Phyllis, were named inaugural members of the Division I Athletics Hall of Fame.

George is survived by his wife, Phyllis, and three daughters. On behalf of the University I have been asked to remember George at his funeral tomorrow. For those of you who wish to offer expressions of sympathy please send them to the President’s Office on the Metropolitan Campus and we will pass them on to the family.
