Freshman Class Profile

Dear Colleagues,

By every measure and by all numbers, the Class of 2008 is an impressive group. As I did last year, I am pleased to share with you a profile of the freshman class, which was included in our Fall 2004 Report to High School Counselors.

The profile is online at http://www.fdu.edu/admissions/2004counselorrpt1.pdf

Not noted in the profile but worthy of mention is the fact that we enjoyed an 8 percent increase in the number of applicants to Fairleigh Dickinson this past year, which produced a nearly 2 percent increase in the number of student deposits (students who were accepted and indicated their intent to enroll), with continued improvement in the academic qualifications of our students.

The biggest enrollment increase occurred in our Silberman College of Business, where the number of students increased by 18 percent, from 195 to 231.

In addition, the number of Col. Fairleigh S. Dickinson scholars enrolling at FDU increased University-wide by 15 percent, from 391 to 448.

While the majority of our students hail from New Jersey and the surrounding area, the freshman class also includes students from 24 states and 17 other countries.

As the numbers indicate, we are continuing to attract outstanding students, and I expect to report even greater progress in the years ahead.

Congratulations in particular to the Office of Enrollment Management for its diligence and dedication. And thank you to all the members of the community for your tremendous support of the enrollment process and for helping to make our programs excel. Attracting students to FDU is truly a University-wide effort.

Thank you,
Michael Adams
