Hackensack River Tides

high tide FULL        low tide FULL

No part of the Metropolitan Campus is more than a short walk from the River, and many campus buildings have great views of the rise and fall of tides, as the Hackensack is an estuary.  Tides on the river can be calculated from information provided by NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration).  High tide is 1:05 (one hour, five minutes) later, low tide 1:19 (one hour, nineteen minutes) later, than the predicted tides for New York Harbor.  Tide height is a factor of 1.28 greater than the predicted tides for New York Harbor.

NOAA tide predictions for Hackensack are on line, along with the factors used to generate them.  So for instance if the Tide Tables indicate that the New York tides for a given day are:
1253am H 5.2      709am L -.1      124pm H 5.5      752pm L  .4
then we apply our delay and height factors and predict tides on campus of:
 158am H 6.7      828am L -.1      229pm H 7.0      911pm L  .5

Or you can view a tide graph for the coming days.
