Fairleigh Dickinson University is a diverse academic community that strives to provide students with educational values, opportunities for personal growth and enrichment, and a success-fostering environment based on cooperation, communication, and caring.

The FDU Vancouver Academic Advising is a campus-based academic resource for all undergraduate and graduate students and provides students the opportunity to develop skills and strategies necessary for academic success. Professional advisors are available year-round for questions regarding university policies and regulations, as well as to help students understand the curriculum requirements of their chosen majors or minors. Our goals are to enhance each student’s ability to learn, apply knowledge, and think critically. We encourage personal responsibility so that students will become confident and independent learners as a result of their tutorial relationship.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
  • Students need to submit their course review request by simply clicking on the “Request Review” button under the “Advising Tab” on the Student Planning system.

  • Registration information email reminders are sent to your FDU email address 3 weeks prior to your registration opening timelines. You can also find it on the Academic Calendar.

  • The actual “deadline” would be the last day to add a course according to the Academic Calendar, but we strongly advise students to start planning and registering as soon as the sections are open for selection as courses fill up quickly. The sooner you register, the more likely that you get your preferred courses/sections.

  • You can refer to the web page of Vancouver Undergraduate Programs and  Vancouver Graduate Programs to review degree requirements of your program.

  • A “hold” status could be due to multiple reasons on your student account which can prevent you from registering. Please contact the Enrollment Services office at esvancouver@fdu.edu to find out the exact reason for the hold status on your account.

  • Academic Advisors don’t have any control over courses that are full.

Place yourself on a “waitlist” to see if a seat becomes available or check with your program coordinator to see if there will be any capacity increases for a specific course.

  • For some courses, a seat will become available if someone drops or if there’s a capacity increase. But if no one drops the course or it’s at the maximum capacity that can’t be further increased before the course starts, students need to find or select an alternative course.

  • If a course you wish to register for has a pre-requisite, you must take and complete the pre-requisite course first.

  • If your English Placement test score result is low, you will be approved to register for EPS courses as part of the Pre-University Program (PUP) or Pre-Master’s Program, to help you with your academic writing in English and prepare you for upcoming courses in your program of studies.

  • You can fill out and submit the “Program Change Form”.
