Pillar Award
Catherine Liggett
Head Athletics Trainer
Metropolitan Campus
You joined the University as assistant athletics trainer in 1990 and in 1998 were promoted to head athletics trainer. While your official goal is to preserve the health and well being of student athletes, your endless care and consideration have enhanced the welfare of the entire University. In the training room, you raised the bar for preventative care and healing treatments. You are equally concerned with emotional health, and you led a collaborative program with the psychology school that enables doctoral students to work with student athletes on sports psychology issues. Living by the motto of “don’t ask anyone else to do what you could do yourself,” you virtually do it all, from raking the softball field to moving bleachers. You led the design of the weight and cardio rooms in the Fitness Center, and you have selected speakers to discuss health issues. You serve important roles on the Alcohol Threat Assessment Subcommittee and the Wellness Committee, and you have helped organize charity softball games. For exceptional loyalty and service dedicated to cultivating sound minds in sound bodies, we celebrate you as a Pillar of the community.
