Metro Campus Emergency Management

Emergency Management

It is unfortunate, but the world that we live in makes it necessary for the Metropolitan Campus to have an Emergency Management Team. The Metropolitan Campus Emergency Management Team has written and approved a plan as well as protocols to handle different types of emergencies on the campus. The following is the action that should be taken if you observe or are involved in any type of emergency.
  • If situation appears dangerous, notify Public Safety (X2222) and leave the building/area immediately.  Advise others that you may see to do the same.
If situation is not serious, notify Public Safety (X2222) and Office of the Vice President for Administration (X7050).

  • If a suspicious item or package is found, notify Public Safety (X2222).  DO NOT TOUCH OR MOVE THE SUSPICOUS ITEM OR PACKAGE.  Move as far away as possible and advise others to do the same.
If a telephone threat is received, try to keep the caller on the line as long as possible.  Seek maximum information and fill out the Bomb Threat Checklist  (attached).  Notify Public Safety (X2222)

  • Anyone observing an incident requiring the presence of outside public emergency services should immediately contact Public Safety (X2222).

  • Individuduals that see or smell smoke should immediately notify Public Safety (X2222).  Leave the building/area immediately and if possible in the process of leaving the building/area, activate a pull box and advise others to leave.
Under no circumstances should any member of the campus community attempt to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher or other means.

  • Public Safety either by themselves, or in conjunction with local authorities will supervise and coordinate any evacuation.  Emergency evacuation procedures and designated staging areas for evacuations are listed on the following pages.
