School of the Arts Students Explore Career Opportunities at Mayo Performing Arts Center
February 29, 2024 – On Wednesday, February 28, twenty students from Fairleigh Dickinson University’s School of the Arts embarked on a journey to the Mayo Performing Arts Center (MPAC) in Morristown, New Jersey, for a special FDU ARTS Career Day.
The Arts Careers trip offered students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of performing arts careers. The event, organized by FDU’s School of the Arts and FDU’s Career Development Office, provided free transportation to and from the Florham Campus, along with a complimentary lunch for all attendees.
At MPAC, students had the privilege of engaging with MPAC staff and leadership, who shared invaluable insights into internships and job opportunities within the performing arts industry. From artistic programming and tech production to marketing and community engagement, students gained firsthand knowledge about the diverse career pathways available at MPAC and other major arts organizations in New Jersey.
“The Career Day event at MPAC was such an educational event, and I was so grateful to the School of the Arts for providing their students with this opportunity,” said Mia Preziosi, Senior Theater Studies Major, Creative Writing Minor. “I’ve been attending shows at MPAC for about 15 years, so it was really awesome to gain more insight about what goes on behind the scenes! Being able to have one-on-one conversations with working professionals at the theater was so wonderful and helped me to better understand all the moving parts that are needed run the theater,” Mia concluded.
MPAC hires in areas such as Artistic Programming/Booking, Arts Administration, Tech Production, Box Office, Operations/Facilities, I.T., House Management, Marketing/PR, Fundraising/Development, Arts Education, Community Engagement, and more.
