Academic Profile

Dr. Desai’s teaching and research focus on learning about ways to integrate mathematical modeling to connect art, culture, and history to engage students in rich mathematical experiences. She has published articles for national journals and has presented at national, regional, and state conferences.

Dr. Desai is a board member of the New Jersey Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (NJAMTE) and the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New Jersey (AMTNJ). She is also a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), and the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE) and serves on committees for both organizations.

Dr. Desai earned her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Mathematics Secondary Education with a minor in Interactive Multimedia from The College of New Jersey, and Masters in Education (MEd) in Secondary Education Mathematics, and a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the University of Central Florida. She also has teaching experience in public schools as both a middle and high school teacher of mathematics.
