Conditional admission pending completion of the Pre-University Program or the Pre-Master’s Program is available to international applicants who meet all academic requirements besides English proficiency for admission to a degree program at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

FDU’s pathway programs cater to students from a variety of backgrounds-ranging from students who have intermediate English language proficiency as measured by standardized tests of English and/or who have not taken an English examination to students whose English falls just below FDU’s regular English language proficiency requirements.

FDU pathway programs feature our proprietary English for Professional Success (EPS) curriculum which introduces students to advanced learning strategies to ensure success in university-level courses taught in English, as well as communication topics and skills relevant to students entering the workforce.

EPS classes address the most common causes of difficulty: meeting expectations for reading and writing at a university level and participating in classroom discussions. FDU’s learning resources and support centers provide additional support in language and academic content tutoring for both on-campus and remote learners.

After completing the application for admission, the applicant will be invited to take FDU’s Online English Placement Test to determine their level of English proficiency and placement at the appropriate level of EPS courses.

Students placed at advanced EPS levels will take a combination of EPS and regular FDU courses for one semester before transitioning into regular academic study.  Students placed at intermediate EPS levels will focus on English for one or two semesters before transitioning into advanced EPS levels and, subsequently, regular academic study.

Non-Pathway Option

Undergraduate and graduate applicants may be granted conditional admission even if they choose not to enroll in one of FDU’s pathway programs.

Such students are encouraged to enroll in a reputable intensive English program. They should submit new standardized test scores of English proficiency meeting FDU requirements for regular admission within one calendar year of receiving an offer of conditional admission.

Note that students enrolling in one of FDU’s pathway programs are not required to submit new standardized test scores.

Students on F-1 Status

Admitted students who will study at Fairleigh Dickinson University on international student visa (F-1 visa) status will receive an FDU I-20 for the duration of the Pre-University Program or Pre-Master’s Program along with a letter of conditional acceptance to the bachelor’s or master’s degree program, respectively. Upon successfully completing the Pre-University Program or Pre-Master’s Program, the student will be issued an updated I-20 for the duration of the degree program.
