Academic Profile

Barbara Friedman is an award-winning graphic designer who has been running her own design firm for over 30 years. Before starting Different by Design, she worked at William Morrow Publishers, designing trade book jackets, and at NBC, designing computer graphics for NBC Nightly News and the Today Show. First in New York and now in New Jersey, Barbara has been providing graphic design services for a variety of clients in healthcare, the arts, municipalities, education, and financial services. The branding of Summit Medical Group is an example of her work in New Jersey. Impactful branding and creative typography are her passion. Her conceptual approach to design makes her style and design solutions varied and attuned to each client’s specific needs.

Barbara has taught graphic design at County College of Morris, Sussex County Community College, and New Jersey City University. She is a former board member of the Art Director’s Club of New Jersey. She has a BA in French language and literature from the University of Michigan and an MS in graphics and communication design from Pratt Institute.
