FDU Students Win Innovation Award at Regional Beta Alpha Psi Competition, Advance to National Championship

March 10, 2026 — Students from Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Silberman College of Business earned top honors at the regional midyear conference of Beta Alpha Psi, winning the Innovation Award in the Best Practices Competition, sponsored by Deloitte.

Damien Lugo, a junior finance major at the Metropolitan Campus and Carlo Trujillo, a junior accounting major at the Florham Campus, received the award during the regional conference held in Cincinnati. Their project featured a presentation on NuAnswers, an innovative tutor bot designed to support student learning.

FDU was one of just ten universities selected to participate in the regional competition. With their win, Lugo and Trujillo have earned an automatic invitation to compete in the national Beta Alpha Psi Best Practices Competition, which will take place this July in Baltimore.

Beta Alpha Psi is the international honor society for financial information students and professionals, primarily in accounting, finance and information systems. Fairleigh Dickinson University has been an active member of the organization since 2014, supporting students through academic excellence, professional development and service.
