March 4, 2024 at 6 PM: “University Woman: Conversations about Life and Work”

Sponsored by the Maxwell Becton College of Arts and Sciences and the FDU Libraries. Five remarkable women from FDU’s students, staff and faculty will discuss how they have grown, advanced and succeeded in their careers. Representatives include June Cho, associate director of career services; Lissette Garcia, executive director of the EOF program; Otito Iwuchukwu, associate professor of pharmacy; Salma Noor, assistant professor of computer science; and Tracy Osawe, sophomore government and political science major. Sponsored by the Metropolitan Campus Women in Business Club and The Equinox. Raffle tickets will be on sale to win prizes such as AirPods, an Amazon Alexa, a Roku Express, a snack basket, a self-care basket and more. All the money raised will be going to the YWCA, a charity committed to combating systemic racism and supporting survivors of domestic violence. A conversation between Kara Alaimo, associate professor of communication and author of Over the Influence: Why Social Media Is Toxic for Women and Girls — And How We Can Take It Back, and Francesca Degiuli, associate professor of sociology. This conversation will take a look at how social media is affecting every aspect of the lives of women, girls and nonbinary people from our relationships and our careers to our physical and mental well-being, as well as what users, lawmakers and tech companies can do to solve these problems.
