Tools for Digital Accessibility

Many accessibility rules can be checked using automated tools. Some options for these tools are listed below. However, there are some rules, such as whether an image contains text, that cannot be checked automatically and must be assessed by a human. Therefore, it’s important to review all content manually in addition to using automated checking tools.

Free Accessibility Checkers

    • Can check any webpage or HTML document
    • Available for anyone using Google Chrome
    • Gives a numerical accessibility score out of 100 possible points, making it easy to compare scores over time
  • WAVE
    • Can check any webpage or HTML document
    • Available for a variety of browsers as an extension
    • Reports on best practices in addition to accessibility violations

Paid Accessibility Checkers

  • SiteImprove
    • Can assess and provide reports on the accessibility of an entire website
    • Reports on changes in score over time
