Adopt-A-Family

FDU-Vancouver is taking part in the Salvation Army’s Adopt-A-Family Program this December.

The Adopt-A-Family program gives individuals, families and groups the opportunity to help less fortunate families with food and gifts at Christmas time. This “People Helping People” program provides a personal, protective, meaningful experience to both those who give and those who receive.

We will be collecting food, clothing and presents for our family. Please see Jobin for details.

Suggestions For Giving Food

  • All types of canned juices, fruits & vegetables.
  • Canned dairy products
  • Milk-powdered & evaporated
  • Canned meats & fish
  • All types of beans
  • Cocoa, coffee & tea
  • Macaroni, noodles
  • Flour, sugar, salt
  • Bread, crackers, cookies
  • Soups
  • Peanut Butter

The above items are suggested for Christmas food boxes due to their over-all nutritional value.

Remember…teen-agers require considerably more food than younger children.

Candy and nuts might be added to the food box as a special touch for the Holiday season.

Gift Certificates

A gift Certificate allows a family to purchase preferred food, proper fit of clothing and personal gifts.

Toys and Gifts

All families will need toys. We do request that only new toys and gifts be included in this program. We also ask that two new toys be provided for each child 17 years of age and under. Toys and gifts should be labeled with the name of the child for whom they intended. We request that all gifts and toys be unwrapped. You may include gift-wrapping materials. This will allow the head of the family the privilege of wrapping the gifts. Gifts to the adults in the family are optional.

Paper goods such as bathroom tissue, facial tissue and paper towels are very practical items. Disposable diapers are great for infants. Detergents and toilet articles such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes are also welcomed!
