Academic Profile

Lauren M. Lipner, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program at FDU in Teaneck, NJ. She has an MA and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University in New York, where her research focused on psychotherapy effectiveness and the transtheoretical construct of the therapeutic alliance. She completed her predoctoral internship at Pennsylvania Hospital at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and completed postdoctoral fellowships at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and Adelphi University. While her doctoral training focused on psychodynamic psychotherapy, an interest in psychotherapy integration led her to receive training in cognitive-behavioral therapies and certification in dialectical-behavioral therapy. Her primary research interests include better understanding what forms of psychotherapy work best for whom and when, as well as the assessment and prevention of treatment failure, broadly speaking (e.g. premature termination and rupture in the therapeutic alliance). She directs the Alliance and Psychotherapy Process Lab (APPL) with FDU doctoral students. In addition to her academic pursuits, Dr. Lipner maintains a small private practice serving patients in the New York City metropolitan area, focusing on integrative interventions. Outside of teaching and clinical work, interests include college football, Taylor Swift, coffee, charcuterie, cats, and anything Disney-related.
