FDU Vancouver Leader Supports Community Dialogue Through Hope Meets Action Exhibition
FDU Vancouver’s Director of Human Resources, Gillian Hartinger, recently attended the opening event of Hope Meets Action: Echoes Through the Black Continuum at the Museum of Vancouver. The exhibit was created by the BC Black History Awareness Society in partnership with the Royal BC Museum and curated and written by Josh Robertson and designed by Rodney Hazard. Gillian participated in the event through her role as a Board Member of Hogan’s Alley Society.
The event featured the Juneteenth Listening Room: Ancestral Memory Dialogue and Performance, an engaging program that invited attendees to reflect on the history, resilience, and contributions of Black communities in British Columbia. Through storytelling, dialogue, and artistic expression, the event created space for meaningful conversations about the experiences of Black settlers and the lasting impact of Black leaders across generations.
The exhibition highlights stories that have often been overlooked in mainstream historical narratives, offering visitors an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Black history in British Columbia and the individuals who have helped shape communities throughout the province. By connecting past and present, Hope Meets Action encourages reflection on the importance of inclusion, representation, and community engagement.
For Gillian, attending the event aligned with her ongoing commitment to supporting initiatives that promote equity, diversity, and community connection. Her involvement with Hogan’s Alley Society reflects a dedication to preserving and celebrating the history and legacy of Vancouver’s Black community while contributing to conversations that help build a more inclusive future.
At FDU Vancouver, fostering global perspectives and encouraging meaningful engagement with diverse communities are central to the student experience. Opportunities to learn from community leaders, cultural organizations, and historical initiatives help enrich understanding and inspire dialogue both inside and outside the classroom.
Hope Meets Action: Echoes Through the Black Continuum will be on display at the Museum of Vancouver through September 13, 2026, offering visitors the opportunity to explore the stories, achievements, and enduring legacy of Black communities in British Columbia.
