What We Look For in Applicants

FDU Honors is about more than grades — we want students who are curious, motivated, and ready to contribute. Strong applications often show:

  • Intellectual Curiosity: A desire to ask questions, explore new ideas, and learn deeply.
  • Engagement & Leadership: Involvement in school, work, or community activities where you’ve made an impact.
  • Strong Communication: A thoughtful, well-written short essay that reflects your authentic voice.
  • Potential for Growth: We look at who you are now and who you can become.

We know the waiting period can be tough – but we’re excited you’re considering FDU Honors!

While your application is being reviewed, here’s what you can expect and how you can stay connected:

  • Holistic Review Process: Every application is carefully reviewed by a member of the Honors Admissions Committee, which includes faculty, staff, and current honors students. We take a well-rounded approach, considering every part of your application.
  • Important Dates & Deadlines:
  • If you apply by the priority deadline, you’ll receive your decision by February 1*
  • If you apply by the regular deadline, expect a decision by May 1*
  • Join Us at an FDU Open House: Want to learn more while you wait? Honors is present at all FDU Open Houses! Stop by our table during the academic fair—we’d love to meet you and answer your questions.
  • Next Steps for Accepted Students: If you’re admitted to FDU Honors, you’ll be asked to confirm your place in the program. Please note: this confirmation is separate from your general FDU enrollment and must be completed in addition to confirming your acceptance to the university.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still apply if my GPA is below 3.3?

Yes, we review applications holistically, considering your experiences, essays, and potential.

Do I need recommendation letters?

No, we do not require recommendation letters.

Can transfer students apply?

Yes, transfer and current FDU students are welcome to apply. Transfer students must meet the deadline’s listed above; current students must email fduhonors@fdu.edu.

Is there a scholarship for students in FDU Honors?

No, there is no honors scholarship. We do not associate scholarships with membership in honors for a specific reason: we want our students to get the best possible scholarship/aid package regardless of whether they join or remain in honors. That way, if a student has any issues along the way (overwhelmed with workload, struggling to maintain honors GPA, etc.), they can leave honors without fear about how it will affect their financial situation or ability to afford to remain at FDU.

All of that said, honors comes with many financial benefits. For students who present at the regional honors conference, we pay all of their expenses to attend. All of our honors events on campus and local trips are free for students to attend. And finally, we offer research grants to support senior capstone projects or research.

What if I miss the deadline?
