IRB Education and Workshops
Required Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Training -New Studies and New Research Team Members
All key personnel on the research team of a study involving human subjects must complete training in human research protection. Key personnel are those who have authority or responsibility for the design or management of a project, as well as those involved in data collection and study management activities, including those responsible for maintaining participant privacy or data confidentiality. Such tasks include: consenting subjects, completing research procedures, contacting subjects and reviewing private/confidential information for the study and recruitment purposes.
All are required to complete and refresh training every three (3) years. One of the following courses must be completed based on the type of research being completed: Social/Behavioral/Educational or Biomedical. You will be asked to answer questions on the type of education and courses you need to complete via the CITI platform. Answer YES to Are you completing research with Human Subjects? You will complete training for Faculty, Staff & Students Biomedical Research OR Faculty, Staff & Students Social Behavioral & Educational Research, if you are the Principal Investigator, Co-investigator, or key personnel as described above. The education dates MUST be placed in the IRB application for review for ALL research key personnel, including the Faculty Mentor/Sponsor.
All other training is for IRB Members, Undergraduate Students, and tutorials for completion of a class. All others MUST complete the above. Any questions? Please contact dicciann@fdu.edu

- Go to the webpage: CITI – Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative
- If you are a first-time user, you MUST click on Register. Create a Username and password. Ensure you affiliate when asked, with Fairleigh Dickinson University. If you are not seeing the affiliation, please check in for assistance from CITI by the help link.
- If you are already registered with CITI, please use your current username and password. Please be sure to affiliate with FDU as stated above.
- Answer the questions based on the education you need to complete. Any technical questions or assistance with logging in must be referred directly to CITI. Links are included on the CITI website log-in page.
