Apply for Housing
A nonrefundable Residence Hall Deposit ($200) is required for first year and new students residents.
All First-Year and New Students
Applications for housing for first year and new students are due May 1 (Fall applicants) and December 1 (Spring applicants). Visit How To Apply for Housing for instructions on how to begin the Housing Application process.
Returning Resident Students
For Fall Housing, current resident students who plan to return to housing for the following academic year have the opportunity to select their room and roommate during the Room Selection Process.
Commuter and Study Abroad Students
For Fall Housing, current FDU commuter and study abroad students who are interested in on-campus housing for the academic year are able to participate in the Room Selection Process.
All applicants must meet the Housing Application deadline (April 1st) in order to participate in Priority Room Selection Day. Otherwise, both (or all three students, if the room is a triple) students are only able to select a room during the General Room Selection period.
Current FDU commuter and study abroad students who are not eligible to participate in Priority Room Selection, will have the opportunity to select their room and roommate during the General Room Selection.
For Spring Housing, current FDU commuter and study abroad students who are interested in on-campus housing apply for housing via MyHousing.
Housing Modification Requests
Students with disabilities that require a specific type of housing assignment to ensure equal access to the housing program may request a housing modification via the Office of Disability Support Services.
Process for Requesting a Religious Single
Housing & Residence Life recognizes that certain religious practices may require students to live in a single room. To ensure requests are reviewed fairly and consistently, we have established the following process:
Step 1: Initial Request
- Students seeking a religious single must complete the Requesting Religious Single Room Form available by April 1 for Returning Students and June 1 for New Students.
Step 2: Documentation Requirement
- The student must submit a letter from a clergy person at their place of worship.
- The letter must:
- Be written on official letterhead, dated, and signed.
- Clearly describe the student’s religious practice and why a single room is necessary to uphold that practice.
Step 3: Review Process
- Housing & Residence Life will review the submitted form and documentation with a representative from Campus Ministry.
- Decisions will be made based on the religious need presented and space availability. Please note that requests for a specific area, for religious reasons, will be considered but not guaranteed.
Step 4: Notification of Decision
- Students will receive a written notification of the outcome via their university email.
- If approved, Housing & Residence Life will assign the student to a single room based on availability.
- If denied, students will be informed of their right to appeal.
Step 5: Appeal Option
- Students may appeal a denial by submitting a written appeal to Pastor Jim Om, Director of Campus Ministry.
- Appeals must include:
- Any additional or updated documentation from a clergy person not previously submitted.
Pastor Om’s decision will be final.

Off-site housing may be provided when on-campus spaces are filled. Students assigned to off-site housing are held to all Fairleigh Dickinson University policies unless otherwise noted in writing.
Students Under the Age of 18
FDU students under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian accept the Terms and Conditions of the Housing Contract on their behalf. In order to process an application, the following must be completed.
- During the application process, at the Emergency Contact section, students under the age of 18 must provide the name of the parent or legal guardian that will be signing the Housing Contract on their behalf.
- Upon completion of the Housing Application, the person indicated as the Emergency Contact will receive an email, at the email address provided by the student, with a link, prompting them to provide their electronic signature, on the Housing Contract, on behalf of the student.
- The Housing Application will not be processed until a parent or legal guardian provides their electronic signature on the Housing Contract.
FDU students 18 years or older will accept the Terms and Conditions of their contract by providing their electronic signature during the application process.
