The Integrated Learning Centre (ILC) is FDU Vancouver’s centralized academic support hub. ILC is designed to help FDU students strengthen academic skills, improve learning outcomes, and achieve success throughout their educational and professional journey. Through tutoring, workshops, learning support, and early intervention services, the ILC provides FDU students with the resources and guidance they need to thrive academically. 

What is the Integrated Learning Centre? 

The Integrated Learning Centre (ILC) is a comprehensive academic support service within the Office of Academic Affairs in Vancouver that provides students with personalized and group-based learning support. The ILC serves as a central resource for: 

  • Academic writing support 
  • Study skills development 
  • Subject-specific tutoring 
  • Learning strategies coaching 
  • Early academic intervention 
  • Referrals to additional academic support services

Integrated Learning Centre Purpose 

The purpose of the Integrated Learning Centre is to: 

  • Enhance student success and academic performance 
  • Provide early intervention for students experiencing academic challenges 
  • Strengthen academic, research, and professional skills 
  • Assist conditionally admitted students in meeting academic support requirements 
  • Foster confidence, independence, and effective learning habits 
  • Support institutional excellence and academic quality assurance 

Whether students require ongoing support or occasional guidance, the ILC offers resources tailored to their individual academic needs. 

Workshop Delivery 

To provide flexible access to services, ILC workshops may be offered based on academic schedule and availability in-person, online and/or hybrid formats. Workshop schedules and delivery methods vary based on student needs, program requirements, and subject matter. 

Student Participation Categories 

The ILC serves students through several different pathways that allow students to receive the support and workshops needed to succeed in their academic journey at FDU Vancouver. 

Conditionally Admitted Students 

New FDU Vancouver students admitted with academic support conditions as identified by our admissions services are required to participate in designated ILC workshops. 

What to Expect 

  • Admission conditions are outlined in the student’s Letter of Offer. 
  • Participation may include up to 4 hours per week or up to 45 hours per term. 
  • Students are enrolled in designated non-credit workshops. 
  • Participation and progress are monitored throughout the term. 
  • Workshops are integrated into the student’s academic support plan.

Voluntary Participants 

FDU Vancouver Students who wish to strengthen their academic performance may voluntarily access ILC services. 

How It Works 

  1. Student contacts Academic Advising. 
  2. Academic Advising reviews the request. 
  3. Student is referred to the ILC for assessment and placement. 
  4. Appropriate services, workshops, or tutoring support are recommended. 
  5. Participation is tracked to support ongoing student success. 

Voluntary participation allows FDU Vancouver students to proactively improve academic outcomes at any stage of their studies. 

Academic Advising
BOOK AN APPOINTMENT

Faculty-Referred Students 

FDU Vancouver faculty members may recommend students who would benefit from additional academic support outside of their academic program. 

Referral Process 

  • Faculty identify students experiencing academic challenges. 
  • Academic Advising contacts the student to discuss support options. 
  • The student is referred to the appropriate ILC tutor or service. 
  • Ongoing support is provided based on the student’s individual needs. 

This early intervention approach helps students address challenges before they impact academic progress. 

Early Intervention & Student Success 

The ILC works closely with Academic Advising, faculty, and program coordinators to identify and support students who may be experiencing academic challenges and need personalized support. By identifying challenges early, students can receive the support they need to remain on track toward their academic goals.
