Credits from Other Institutions

Credits Taken at Other Academic Institutions

Matriculated students may earn up to 15 credits at other institutions if these courses are taken during the summer term or regular scheduled break and are equivalent in content and level to the courses they replace and/or are appropriate to the student’s curriculum. To obtain approval to take courses at another academic institution, students must submit an Application to Take Credits at Other Institutions to the Vancouver Office of Enrollment Services. Please note Department Chair and/or Dean’s signature may be required.

Prior to submitting the form, students should meet with their program coordinator to determine course equivalency with Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) Vancouver, if any, and how the credits will apply to the student’s degree requirements.

It is the student’s responsibility to provide the Office of Enrollment Services with official transcripts of all grades from other institutions to have the courses transferred to FDU-Vancouver.

Eligibility

Students enrolled at FDU – Vancouver during summer term may not enroll simultaneously for courses at another institution. The maximum additional credits that may be earned at other institutions is limited by the number of transfer credits already accepted by FDU – Vancouver. Please see Academic Regulations in the University Bulletins for details. This limit shall not apply to programs of study formally approved by FDU – Vancouver in association with other institutions of higher learning. Students cannot repeat an FDU course at another institution.

Authorization to take courses at another institution must be obtained prior to the term in which the course will be taken. The student must have a minimum cumulative grade point ratio (CGPR) of 2.00 to be eligible. This authorization may be granted for elective courses and makeup credits for courses not available at the University in time to meet graduation requirements, but normally not for core or required major courses.

A course substituting for a lower-level course at FDU may be taken at either an accredited two-year or four-year institution; but a course substituting for an upper-level course at FDU must be taken at an accredited four-year institution.

A minimum grade of C (not Pass/Fail) must be earned in any course taken at other institutions in order to be counted toward graduation at FDU – Vancouver. Matriculated students who are granted permission to take courses at another academic institution will have courses transferred in without the grades calculated into their CGPR.

Exceptions to these policies must be approved by the college dean or school director.
