Mark and Lori

A couple sits at a table at a restaurant and cuddles close. They met at the Florham Campus radio station, WFDM, and fell in love through letters.

“It was September 1975, and I wanted to impress him with my musical taste so I could become a student DJ,” Lori (Sklar) Blau, BS’79 (Flor) recalls. She got the job.

“We started dating the summer after Mark [Blau, BS’77 (Flor)] graduated.” Back then, long distance calls cost extra. “I still have a box of silly, sweet and mushy letters. Long distance calls were expensive, so we did a lot of letter writing!”

They also traveled to see one another. “He came to visit when I did a semester at Wroxton College. We rented a stick shift car, which was a challenge, shifting with our opposite hands and driving on the left side of the road.” The two laughed the whole drive.

Love letters sent in the 1970s and 1980s.

In fact, Blau says, laughter is a big part of what keeps their love alive today. “He’s my personal entertainment committee!” They married in 1979, and have three children and two grandchildren.
