Academic Profile

Avimanyou Vatsa is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Director of the Deep Chain Lab at Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) in Teaneck. Before joining FDU as an Assistant Professor in 2018, he was an assistant professor at West Texas A&M University. He earned his MS and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. Vatsa teaches and conducts research in data science, cybersecurity, bioinformatics, and computational biology. Dr. Vatsa’s research focuses on applying Gen and Agentic AI, machine learning, and deep learning algorithms to medical images (skin and breast cancer), Maize phenotypes, object segmentation in videos, Intrusion Detection Systems, and the applications of blockchain technology. Furthermore, he enjoys administrative responsibilities and teamwork as a leader, having served as chair of multiple discipline faculty search committees, lead advisor/advisor for multidisciplinary students in national-level progr  amming competitions such as IEEE Xtreme and HIS Battle of the Brain, and chair of selection committees for scholar programs, among other roles.

Dr. Vatsa has also taken on significant service roles in the community, such as serving as a secretary and webmaster (2025-2026, 2019-2020) and served as a treasurer and webmaster (2021-2024) of the IEEE North Jersey Section, Chair of Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) chapter (2026-present), Vice-Chair of Systems Council Chapter (2024 – onward) of the IEEE North Jersey Section, supervising and judging students, including keynote speaker, reviewers, editorial board member for renowned journals, and program and organizing committee members for several national and international conferences. He is also a proud senior member of IEEE, the IEEE Systems Council, the IEEE CIS, the IEEE Computer Society, the IEEE Young Professionals, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He is also a guest professor at ZJIPC, Zhejiang, China.
