Academic Profile

Dr. Harsh Patel is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. He brings a research-grounded approach to pharmaceutical sciences education, teaching within the PharmD curriculum with a focus on pharmacology and pharmaceutical calculations.

Dr. Patel earned his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at St. John’s University, where his dissertation research centered on cancer pharmacology and multidrug resistance mechanisms. His work examined ABCB1, ABCC1, ABCG2 and ABCC10 drug transporters, p53/MDM2 signaling, and resistance pathways relevant to various tyrosine kinase inhibitors. This work has resulted in over 20 peer-reviewed publications, and he serves as a peer reviewer for over fifteen scientific journals in oncology and pharmacology.

Prior to his appointment at FDU, Dr. Patel served as an Assay Development Scientist, leading GLP-compliant laboratory workflows using instrumentation including the KingFisher, QuantStudio 7 Pro Dx, and TapeStation 4200. He also worked as a voluntary Research Scientist in Dr. Zhe-Sheng Chen’s laboratory at St. John’s University, where he conducted cell-based assays, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, and immunoassay-based studies, authored manuscripts, and mentored junior researchers. Earlier in his career, as a Doctoral Teaching Fellow, he taught pharmacology, compounding, biomedical sciences, anatomy and physiology, and pharmaceutics to PharmD students across all professional years (P2 through P5).

Dr. Patel’s current research interests remain rooted in cancer pharmacology, with ongoing collaborative work in oncology drug resistance mechanisms and ongoing manuscript and editorial contributions in the field. He continues to engage in peer review and scholarly writing alongside his teaching responsibilities at FDU.
