MBA Waiver Policy and Transfer Credit Policy

MBA Course Waiver Policy

Students may request a waiver for up to four core curriculum courses and one introductory course for a maximum of 13 credits. Students must have taken a course (or courses) equivalent to the courses that we offer within the last five years and meet the following grade requirements in order for the waiver to be considered:

  • ACCT 6400: Students must have earned a B average or better in at least 6 credits, or two courses: financial accounting and managerial accounting. Undergraduate majors in accounting are eligible to request a waiver. Students with majors in accounting must have taken at least 12 credits of accounting in additional to financial accounting and managerial accounting in order to be considered for the waiver.
  • ECON 6400: Students must have earned a B average or better in at least 6 credits, or two courses: microeconomics and macroeconomics.
  • FIN 6400: Students must have earned a B average or better in at least 6 credits, or two courses: principles of financial analysis and intermediate financial analysis. Undergraduate majors in finance are eligible to request a waiver. Students with majors in finance must have taken at least 12 credits of finance beyond the introductory courses in order to be considered for the waiver.
  • LAW 6400: Students must have earned a B in at least 3 credits, or one business law course.
  • MGMT 5400: Students must have earned a B average or better in one business and society course.
  • MGMT 6400: Students must have earned a B average or better in at least 9 credits of management coursework including at least one course in organizational behavior. Undergraduate majors in management are eligible to request a waiver. Students with majors in management must have taken at least 12 credits of management beyond the introductory courses in order to be considered for the waiver. Management coursework does not include financial management, supply chain management, or operations management.
  • MKTG 6400: Students must have earned a B average or better in at least 9 credits of marketing coursework including at least one course in principles of marketing. Undergraduate majors in marketing are eligible to request a waiver. Students with majors in marketing must have taken at least 12 credits of marketing beyond the introductory courses in order to be considered for the waiver.

Note: Students requesting a waiver must have taken each class within the last five years.

All waiver requests must include all required documentation in order to be considered. Required documentation includes:

  • Waiver Request Form
  • Academic transcript (copy acceptable)
  • Syllabus for the course(s) previously completed. The syllabus should provide the following information:
    1. Course Description
    2. Course Topics
    3. Course Objectives
    4. In-class Hours/ Class Schedule
    5. Description of Assignments
    6. Title and Author(s) of Textbook(s) Used in the Course
    7. Grading/Assessment Policy (helpful, but not required)
  • Resume

The waiver request will be reviewed by the department chair whose decision is final.

MBA Transfer Credit Policy

A student may be eligible to transfer a maximum of 6 credits provided these credits have been earned in an MBA program at another AACSB-accredited institution under the following conditions:

  • The coursework must be approved as part of the student’s program of studies
  • It must not have been applied to the completion of the requirements for another degree
  • It must have been taken at the graduate level
  • It must have been taken within the last 5 years
  • The student must have received a grade of ‘B’ or better

Approval of transfer credit will be made by the department chair.
