Academic Profile

Professor Izelde van Jaarsveld hails from the rainbow nation of South Africa where she trained as a lawyer after serving articles at the Legal Aid Board of South Africa. Prior to relocating to Canada, Prof. van Jaarsveld worked for many years as a banking law professor at the largest university in South Africa, UNISA.

A fervent proponent of celebrating diversity and multiculturalism, Professor van Jaarsveld was delighted to join the FDU- Vancouver campus as Adjunct Professor of Law in August 2017. Her research interests are rooted in international financial crime prevention and cyber law. A Commonwealth Scholarship alumna, global traveller, and researcher, Prof. van Jaarsveld believes tolerance, respect and understanding could be fostered by engaging in honest multicultural communication. Lecturing to a diverse study body at FDU affords Prof. van Jaarsveld opportunities to emphasize the importance of global citizenship and education in creating an inclusive, tolerant society.

Prof. van Jaarsveld is an avid skier, snowshoe, and general outdoor enthusiast who relishes in exploring the north shore mountains of Vancouver.
