Metropolitan Campus New International Students Checklist

  1. Submit Your Deposit
    • Once you are ready to join our FDU Go Getters, submit your $200 tuition deposit, and an additional $200 housing deposit if you plan to live on campus. 
    • Submit your deposit and follow the instructions to officially join FDU! 
  2. Activate Your FDU NetID
    • Activate your FDU NetID to access New Student Orientation registration, FDU Email, submit your health forms, and register for housing if you are planning to live on campus. 
    • Make sure to have your FDU student ID number from your acceptance letter handy. 
    • Visit fdu.edu/netid to claim your FDU NetID, which is your FDU student email address. Select “Activate My Account” and follow the prompts. Be sure to write down your new email address. 
    • Then, visit fdu.edu/outlook for instructions on how to access your FDU student emails. 
    • Install the Duo certification app to your phone to access FDU information at fdu.edu/duo
    • Contact the University Technical Assistance Center at fdutac@fdu.edu or 973-443-8822 for assistance. 
  3. Get your I-20/DS-2019 form to apply for your visa
    • Go to the international student portal at international.fdu.edu 
    • Click on ADMITTED Students and complete the Getting My Visa/I-20/DS-2019 program online form with your NetID credentials. 
    • Upload copies of your financial support documents from your sponsor, copies of your passport bio/information pages, and any other relevant documents for your I-20/DS-2019 to be issued. 
    • After downloading your I-20/DS-2019, pay your I-901 fee through FMJFee.com and apply for your visa at your local US embassy/consulate. 
    • Contact global@fdu.edu with any questions you may have during this process.

  6. Register for New Student Orientation 
    • After submitting your deposit and receiving your visa, email ISS@fdu.edu to register for International Orientation! This experience will give you the opportunity to meet your classmates, learn about the FDU and Metro Campus culture, and discover everything you need to know about being a college student!

  7. Complete Your Housing and Meal Plan Application
    • There’s no better place to be than on campus! Here’s How to Apply for Housing if you plan to reside here. Use your FDU email (NetID) to access the housing application. 
    • When you apply for housing, you will automatically be assigned Meal Plan A. For more information about Meal Plan A click Metro Campus Tuition and Fees
    • If you will not be living on campus,there are still meal options available to you. Please see the commuter meal plan options.
    • If you have questions, contact the Office of Housing and Residence Life at 201-692-2250, emailfduhousing@fdu.edu, or visit the Residence Life Office on the Teaneck Side of the campus. 
  8. Submit Your Health Forms
    • New Jersey state law requires all students to provide proof of immunizations to the University’s Student Health Services Office before they can register for classes or check into the residence halls. Please visit the Student Health Services page for the required health forms and instructions on how to submit them. If you have questions, contact the Student Health Services Office at 201-692-2437. 
  9. Complete Your Placement Assessments
    • To prepare your class schedule, you need to complete Accuplacer assessments in writing, reading, and math. After you submit your deposit to FDU, you will receive detailed information about the assessments and how to schedule them. This information will be sent to your FDU student email address. It is important to complete these assessments by the designated due dates. For the most updated information on Metro Campus placement assessments, visit fdu.edu/metrotesting. 
    • For questions related to placement assessments, please contact the Academic Support Center at metrotesting@fdu.edu or 201-692-2076.  
    • International students must also complete EPS placement testing (www.fdu.edu/English) and instructions are sent to your FDU student email account once your deposit is received and processed. Log into your FDU student email account through https://office365.fdu.edu to view instructions after your deposit has been processed. 
    • An important next step is accepting the Terms and Conditions which, combined with completing the placement assessment process, will allow the university to create your first semester course schedule. For more information on how to accept the Terms and Conditions, please click Sign Agreement. 
  10. Disability Support Services
    • Students can request accommodations by submitting a New Student Request Form using your FDU email (NetID). Appropriate documentation can be faxed to 201-692-2425 or mailed to:

  11. Send Your Final Transcripts and NACES Evaluation
    • A final high school transcript showing proof of graduation is required from your school or official university entrance examination certificates (IB diploma, GCSE and GCE results certificates, official WAEC results, CAPE/CXC certificates, etc.) must be reported to the university by the issuing institutions/services to complete your admissions file. 
    • Your school counselor can submit your official transcript to the Office of Admissions at global@fdu.eduor mail it to:

    • If you have earned a GED, please submit an official copy to the Office of Admissions.  
    • All documents are processed at this location regardless of the campus you will attend.

  12. Submit your AP, IB, and College Credits
    • Final testing results for Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and final, official transcript(s) should be sent to the Office of Admissions at global@fdu.eduor mailed to:

    • All results will be evaluated by academic advisors to determine transferable credits. Contact the Office of Admissions at global@fdu.eduif you have any questions.

  13. Apply for your FDU ID Card
    • An email from TRANSACT will be sent to your FDU email after you have deposited and activated your NETID. 
    • A week before you arrive on campus, upload a photo of yourself to TRANSACT to be used as your ID photo.
    • FDU ID cards can either be mailed to your home address, picked-up at the campus Public Safety Office (commuter students), or given to you at the time of resident check-in (resident students).

  14. Register Your Vehicle and Get Your Campus Parking Decal
  15. Sign up for the FDU Alert System and MYEOP App
    • To sign up for FDUAlert:
      1. FDUAlert is the university-wide emergency notification system to keep you informed about campus emergencies and closures.
      2. Go to FDU Self Service and log in, using your FDU NetID and password. 
      3. Select your status from the menu (Faculty, Employee, Advisor or Student)
      4. Click on the FDUAlert link, review your information for accuracy, make any necessary changes, and submit. 
    • To Sign up for MYEOP
      1. The MYEOP app gives you the most up-to-date information about what to do in case of a campus emergency.
      2. Download the MYEOP app for iOS or Android from your app store.
      3. Choose Fairleigh Dickinson University.
      4. Login using password: fdueop
  16. Designate a FERPA Release 
    • Go to FDU Self Service and log in, using your FDU NetID and password to complete a FERPA consent form. 
  17. Create a Handshake Account
    • Handshake is your portal to employment opportunities while you are a student and beyond. On and off campus positions, including Federal Work Study positions, can be found on this platform. 
    • Create an account at Handshake.
