FDU Vancouver Expands Hospitality Management Master’s Program with New Healthcare Hospitality Concentration

New Concentration within Master of Hospitality Management Studies Program Bridges Hospitality and Healthcare: First of its Kind in BC

Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) Vancouver is pleased to announce the launch of a new concentration in the Master of Hospitality Management Studies (MHMS) graduate program, Concentration in Healthcare Hospitality, beginning Fall 2026. Developed in collaboration with Health Administration faculty at FDU Vancouver, this concentration responds to the growing need of convergence between healthcare and hospitality, equipping graduates with the skills to lead with empathy and excellent customer service.

As healthcare systems increasingly adopt service-oriented approaches to improve patient and resident experiences, professionals who understand both the operational realities of healthcare and the service excellence principles of hospitality are in growing demand. The new concentration strategically integrates foundational knowledge of healthcare systems, regulatory frameworks, and sector-specific operational practices with the hospitality management expertise at the core of the MHMS program.

“Hospitality and healthcare are increasingly interconnected from wellness services and senior living to patient experience and healthcare-adjacent organizations,” said Dr. Jarrett Bachman, Program Coordinator for the MHMS Program. “This concentration brings together the best qualities and learning from both disciplines to prepare graduates who can meaningfully improve service delivery and human outcomes across the healthcare sector.”

The Healthcare Hospitality Concentration covers key trends at the intersection of health service delivery and hospitality management, including wellness services, applying hospitality principles to health outcomes, serving aging populations, and navigating healthcare-adjacent service organizations – all with an awareness of cultural differences and evolving community needs.

“We believe that a comprehensive approach to healthcare and recovery extends far beyond the operating or emergency room,” says Dr. Bachman. “By integrating disciplines that support wholeperson healing, such as nutrition, postcare services, and empathy, we can significantly improve the experience during what is often an incredibly stressful and difficult time for patients and their families. The Healthcare Hospitality concentration plays an important role in supporting not only patients, but also their families and the broader community.”

At FDU Vancouver, we are committed to developing programs that respond directly to the realworld needs of employers and communities. The Healthcare Hospitality Concentration reflects the evolving landscape of healthcare in British Columbia by preparing a workforce with distinctive, indemand skills. It also underscores our commitment to crossdisciplinary innovation in graduate education – bridging healthcare, service excellence, and human-centered leadership.

The Concentration is available to students enrolled in the MHMS program and is designed to complement existing coursework while deepening expertise in healthcare settings. To learn more about the MHMS program and the new Healthcare Hospitality Concentration, visit fdu.edu/vancouver-mhms.
