Dr. Vicki L. Cohen, Director of the School of Education, is Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University. She received her Ed.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University in Communications, Computing and Technology in Education. She has a Master’s Degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in Curriculum and Instruction and from University of Florida in Special Education. Dr. Cohen worked as Interim Dean of University College from 2017-2020, overseeing 7 different schools. She assisted in the reorganization of Fairleigh Dickinson University. She has worked as a faculty member and administrator at Fairleigh Dickinson University since 1991. Dr. Cohen started the Ed.D. in Higher Education in Fall 2020, and currently oversees and administers the program. She teaches courses within the program and advises students including chairing Dissertation Committees.
Previously, Dr. Cohen taught for more than seven years in public schools as a learning disabilities teacher and taught courses in literacy instruction, technology implementation, problem-based learning, and assessment. She has published extensively in these areas and has presented at regional, national and international conferences on her research. She is co-author of the literacy textbook, Literacy for Children in an Information Age; Teaching Reading, Writing and Thinking (XanEdu Publishing, 2017).
Dr. Cohen was the Project Director on grants from the Alcoa Foundation and the Bayer Foundation. Her research focused on working with teachers to develop problem-based learning units based on sustainability, which were implemented in classrooms across New Jersey.
