Resources for International Students

The Career Development Center provides career support and assistance to International Students at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Career counselors meet with students on a one-on-one basis and through group sessions, workshops, and events to educate students on career-related topics.

Meeting with a Career Counselor

Career counselors meet with students on a one-on-one basis for career counseling. Working collaboratively with counselors, you will be able to convert your resume to a U.S format which will appeal to U.S employers, practice your interviewing skills, and prepare for the internship/job search process. You can schedule an appointment with an advisor by visiting the contact page and selecting the correct counselor within your campus.

Attending Career Events

The Career Development Center regularly hosts workshops and events to educate students on career-related topics. Stay informed on upcoming events by logging into your Handshake account or visiting our calendar.

On-Campus Employment

F-1 student are eligible to work no more than 20 hours per week on campus during the academic year, and no more than 40 hours per week during official university breaks. You can search for on-campus positions by visiting Handshake or visiting university departments to inquire in-person.

Curricular Practical Training (CPT)

F-1 students may be eligible to complete an internship for credit in their field of study after completion of 48 credits for undergraduates and 18 credits for graduate students. Approval by International Student Services, Career Development, and the academic department is required prior to a student beginning their CPT experience. All students seeking to complete a CPT should work well in advance to ensure timely processing of their internship paperwork. Volunteer Opportunities

International students are eligible to participate in volunteer opportunities in order to support the local community as well as build their resumes. If interested in pursuing a volunteer opportunity, please contact Career Development or International Student Services to make sure it is within the compliance standards for your visa status.
