Hear from our GBE Students!

Three people pose with a large, grey, perforated metal sculpture shaped like a wide loop. One person stands behind it while two sit inside the curve. Behind them is a glass building with "DECATHLON" and "AROMA ZONE" text visible.

Being a part of GBE at FDU has opened up lots of activities for me during my college years, both internationally and domestically. It also allows for like-minded students who are studying business to create a supportive community and connect for all our college years, while growing and learning about business all around the world. Also, GBE connects us with professionals in the same field we are pursuing a college degree, so we can network and ask as many questions as possible. My first trip as a college student was to Paris, France, which expanded my perspective and opened up my network bubble to meet different people around the world. Being a part of GBE helped me be more confident in talking to more people than I was used to. Before entering college, I was a very quiet person, but GBE helped me make everlasting friends who share the same interests as me.— Brandon Martinez, Business Management, Metro Campus

“GBE is such an awesome opportunity for business students and has been my favorite part of my FDU experience. Take advantage if you can!”— Sofia Montalti, Marketing, Florham Campus

“The GBE program has made my experience at FDU beyond unique! Being able to make worldwide connections, lifelong friendships, and become more educated makes this opportunity one of kind!” Reena Hamouda, Marketing, Florham Campus

Semester Abroad

Although a semester abroad is not part of the GBE program, students interested in a longer study abroad experience have the option to study at FDU’s Wroxton or Vancouver campuses, or one of our many partner institutions around the world during their sophomore or junior year.

Benefits

  • Gain a competitive edge with a business education enriched by an international perspective.
  • Learn firsthand how businesses work across cultures and around the world.
  • Explore the conditions and influences shaping economies and financial decisions in Europe, North America, and beyond.
  • Develop a global vision — and your self-confidence — by stepping up to the challenges of being a world traveler and learner.

Take advantage of the opportunity to study abroad. You can travel and study for a single course between semesters or stay abroad for an entire semester.

European Seminar in England

To ensure that graduates possess the well-rounded preparation essential to succeed in the field, students in an undergraduate hospitality and tourism degree program attend European Seminar during spring break of their senior year. Students travel with their classmates and gain an understanding of European standards of quality at some of the finest hotels, restaurants, and wineries. Prior to their travels, students take two courses as part of the professional development series to gain insight into international itinerary planning, etiquette, and relations. Students enrolled in these courses investigate management approaches, techniques and strategies, as practiced in the United States in specific areas of the hospitality industry such as human resources, organizational systems, law and environmental issues in contrast with their counterparts abroad.

In addition to attending management seminars, students tour outstanding hotel properties and are given an opportunity to experience fine food and beverage service. They go behind the scenes at luxury hotels and member hotels of the world-renowned Leading Hotels of the World.

For students that remain interested in pursuing additional overseas experiences, Fairleigh Dickinson University has a wealth of partnerships with other universities. Students can learn more about these options when speaking with the Study Abroad Office. Specifically, Hospitality students have studied abroad in Switzerland, China, the Netherlands, Italy, and England.
