Welcome to Arts, Communication, & Media
Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) offers forward-thinking majors in Animation, Communication, Film, Graphic Design, and an integrated major in The Arts, which allows students to add studies in Creative Writing, Fine & Studio Arts, and Theater, in addition to the majors within the department. Our focus is to prepare students for success in today’s creative industries.
Our students and faculty are engaged in a wide range of disciplines, united by a passion for storytelling, artistic expression, and meaningful communication.
- Animation combines artistic expression with 2D and 3D digital technologies.
- Communication offers a versatile curriculum in social media, advertising, journalism, PR, and more.
- Film students get hands-on experience in directing, cinematography, and post-production using professional-grade equipment.
- Graphic Design emphasizes visual storytelling, branding, and digital media design.
- The Arts offers a solid foundation in visual arts with hands-on studio work in drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital media. By combining all areas of the arts into one major, FDU encourages students to create a personalized, interdisciplinary degree that includes courses across multiple artistic fields; Studio Art, Art History, Creative Writing, Theater, Music, Animation, Film, and Graphic Design.

Our programs feature hands-on creative experiences. Students benefit from:
- Cutting-edge facilities, including a new animation lab and dedicated spaces for studio arts, theater productions, and film screenings
- Annual events, such as WAMFest (Words, Arts, and Music Festival), celebrating creativity across all mediums
- Opportunities for real-world experience through internships and industry partnerships
- Mentorship from nationally recognized artists and authors who lead workshops, performances, and exhibitions
Students have interned at leading organizations such as HBO, MTV, DreamWorks, and Panavision Camera—all enhanced by our proximity to New York City.
