FDU Distinguished Faculty Awards

Fairleigh Dickinson University recognizes extraordinary faculty with distinguished faculty awards annually in the fall semester convocation. These awards are given to tenured faculty who have distinguished themselves as outstanding teachers, researchers, citizens of our community, and advocates for students.

The Award Categories

Excellence for Teaching

Classroom effectiveness, meaningful innovations in teaching methods, curriculum and career advising, and intellectual impact on a range of students.

Excellence for Research and Scholarship

The quality and venue of publication, performances, exhibits, grants, and the external reputation of these accomplishments in the faculty member’s field.

Excellence for Service

Department and college citizenship, contributions to committee work, program development, and commitment to leadership in the University’s internal and external affairs.

Excellence for Student Success and Belonging

Promoting the success and retention of our students through extraordinary efforts inside and outside the classroom and creating a community where students feel a sense of care, inclusion, and belonging in the FDU community.

Please Note: This award category was created in 2023. Nominations can also be submitted by staff and students in this category.

Eligibility

All tenured Faculty and all faculty members who, at the time of application, have been informed in writing of the Board’s decision to grant them tenure, are eligible.

No faculty member who has previously won an award in one of the categories below is eligible to receive the award in that same category.

There is a separate selection committee for each of the awards consisting of the three previous winners in that category, a dean and an administrator.
